The following commentary was written by one of my seminar students:

"What a perfect setting for a jazz guitar seminar. From the crisp morning air in the Redwood forest to the lazy sunshine in the afternoon the weather was perfect. Add that to the camaraderie of being with Steve Crowell and fellow guitar-lovers in a relaxed-intense learning environment, it doesn't get any better. Steve Crowell was the perfect host - supplying coffee, cake, fresh fruit - and the perfect tutor. The handouts were concentrated and to the point, no "fluff". The group jam sessions, trading fours or 16s, were lively and very informative. This was no "theory" lesson - even though we spent important time absorbing practical substitutions, soloing concepts - this was "making music". Steve was right in there, playing, coaching, doing what he does best - TEACHING. Steve is one of those rare humans who can DO and TEACH. I can't wait for next year, but it will take me that long to absorb what I picked up in the four days at Steve's seminar. It's mostly about the music, but a part of the seminar was the coming together of like-minded people. I know I came away from the seminar with a renewed energy and focus. A big chunk of learning is understanding what you don't know - and usually to realize you don't know something you have to be exposed to it. Not trying to sound esoteric, I just think that being AWARE of things around you is a large part of education. So, thank you for helping me realize what I don't know!! I have a clearer musical GOAL now."
